ART AND EMOTION

‘You need eyes, hands and a heart to do a painting’ – David Hockney

My art comes from a creative impulse – a moment of being ‘in the zone’.
The works carry a certain ‘raw, first-timeness’ and should be understood on an emotional level.

ART IS ACTION

‘In order to attain the impossible one must attempt the absurd’

I start in chaos – there is no other way. Destruction essential, an urge – it leads to awareness. In the end – it is the work who has the answer.

THE ART PITCH

‘Asking an artist to talk about his work is like asking a plant to discuss horticulture’ – Jean Cocteau

Art to me – a way to speak when language fails and the right words can’t be found. There are things better un-spoken– paper and linen – my discreet workmates.

Sometimes I feel like a jester – not sure in which direction to swing my ‘marotte’.

Art and Healing

In mid-years I woke up one morning and asked myself  ‘Is that it?’ ‘ Was that all?’

I took up the brush again – faced my demons – looked at my big bag dragging behind me – the conditioned part I aquired in my childhood – slowly – over the years – things fizzled out – a quantum leap into light weight.
